weekending

What a week, what a week!

I flew out early Monday morning and spent the week in NY training my replacement at work. Love the guy we hired to take over my job at LP and had a really great week working with him and getting to know him at the same time. The highlight of the week though was a Wednesday night get together with almost all of my girl friends still in NYC. It was so good to see everyone and a very hard reminder how lonely it can be in SF. I was very reluctant to go back to NY, not wanting to leave my life and S here in California, but once I was back I was so glad I'd gone. As hard as it was to be reminded of what an incredible life I had in NY, it was really great to get to see all of my amazing friends and coworkers. The low point of the week would probably be the emotional breakdown that greeted S at the SF airport. After a week of living my old life (minus the expense, 40 minute commute in 40 degree weather and most all responsibilities), coming back to what I was forced to realize is still a very lonely life in SF, was so much harder than I'd ever imagined. I know I made the right decision in moving, and couldn't be more convinced of that, but it's still hard and having a reminder so soon was a lot harder than I ever could have anticipated.

But I digress, the week was great, tough, but great. Coming home was great, tough, but great. S has been walking on anthrax lined egg shells all weekend, but I think we've cleared the worst of it. It definitely didn't help returning to a rainy weekend in SF. Friday night, post breakdown, we decided to order in Pauline's Pizza again and called it a night. Saturday morning we woke up and I headed out to grab coffee while S tried to sleep off the nightmare that is a hormonal, emotional 20 something who's recently been re-separated from all of her best friends. Saturday started off a little rocky too, with indecisive weather and no real plan of action for the day. We ended up going to lunch at a little spot called Cafe Pier 23. S had seen it highlighted on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives the night before (I was most likely off in a huff somewhere hating the world, so I missed it, but he claimed it looked amazing) so we decided to give it a try. The food was decent, nothing amazing, which makes sense considering the show visited the restaurant 2.5 years and one head chef ago. Oh well, you live and you learn. Saturday afternoon started to get rainy, and we started to get cranky (read: I started to get cranky..AGAIN) so we hunkered down and watched some college football before deciding that 10pm was as respectable a time as any to go to bed. OH, and how could I forget?!?!! Saturday afternoon was NOT just football and emotions. Saturday afternoon was football, emotions AND the 2nd book in the Hunger Games trilogy (which is a post in and of itself, but for those of you who have NOT yet read it, please, MAKE HASTE*..you must obtain & read. IMMEDIATELY!)

We woke up early this morning and after an episode of "Murder, She Wrote" (yes, you read that correctly. Jessica Fletcher in the hizzzzouse) we headed off to run errands. What an exciting life we live out here!!!! Ikea, West Elm and Target were just as exciting as you can probably imagine. Even more so, maybe. We then came home and haven't left again since.. Oh wait, that's a lie. We went to Whole Foods so that S could make us dinner tonight, which he's working on as we speak (here's hoping it turns out better than his chocolate chip pancakes which I'm convinced were laced with some sort of sedative to calm the hyper-emotional being I've apparently become this week/weekend).

So that's that. Nothing exciting to report back on other than the fact that we're now 3 days away from heading down to NOLA to visit with S's family for thanksgiving and meet his new nephew! I will most definitely be taking more pictures than is acceptable considering this child is in no way related to me, but who doesn't love a cute baby shot?!
